After watching a bunch of Youtube videos on how to catch wintering cats, I decided to head out to Lake Brittle in Warrenton to and use some fresh cut herring I bought from the Lotte supermarket. I set up where the water was deepest (28 feet) and cast where a flock of seagulls were congregating. The cats should be near the bottom where the water is warmer at least that was what the experts said on YouTube. Had two rods out and had electronic alarms on both. It was about 30ish degrees but the wind made it seem like it was in the teens. Two hours had passed by without even a nibble and I was starting to freeze and thinking about packing up to leave.
As I was packing up my gear to leave, I heard one of the alarms screaming and saw the rod on the far right bent over. At this point I longer felt cold and hustled up to the rod for the fight. After a lonnnng ten minutes of back and forth, She finally surfaced and I scooped her up with the net. Boy did she feel heavy!! Did not have a scale but did have a sewing tape measure in my bag. She was a quarter inch short of 36 inches and extremely thick.
It was the biggest channel cat I have ever caught. Released her to fight another day!!

I only had the tape measure ribbon my wife uses for sewing and it was 35.5 inches. Did not get a weight but wanted to get her back in the water quickly since I has her out a while trying to remove a circle hook that was swallowed. She felt very heavy and scars all over. Beautiful channel for sure. I was actually hunting for a flathead lol.
