The 4th of July

I know it's a few days away but I didn't want to wait.

I came to this great country almost 60 years ago when my family escaped from a tyrannical communist government.

I'll be damned if I let that happen again!!

Have a listen...

Re: The 4th of July

My parents have a very similar story. My grandfather was a provincial leader in Hunan, China. He was a nationalist and during the communist revolution, he found out that they were about to ransack his town. My grandfather packed up his family (5 kids and my grandmother) that night, and fled for the SE coast. My dad tells me he was about 14, and he said he helped row a boat that carried his family to Taiwan. I wouldn't be here if my grandfather didn't save his family, and my dad didn't have the strength or courage to help row. My grandfather eventually got asylum in the US, and they came to the US in the late 70's. My dad came to the US first, without my mom, me, or my older sister. He washed dishes, cleaned carpets, and did whatever he could to pay to get us here. I finally came to the US when I was 2 years old. My dad has had a tough life, my mom too. They have sacrificed so much for me and my siblings. That's one of the reasons why I try to take my dad fishing whenever I can, it brings him a lot of joy.

China ticks me off, we need to back Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Tom, that's an amazing story. I have a friend from Viet Nam that got out just in time. His dad was in the SV army. They worked their tails off in the US to make it. And they did!

Your dad is a hero!!

We were fortunate, we got to fly out pretending we were going on vacation. I still have my Eastern Airlines return ticket.
