Tiger bass stocking

"DGIF biologists stocked F1 bass, also known as, "tiger bass," in five water bodies recently—Smith Mountain Lake, Claytor Lake, Lake Anna, Lake Chesdin, and Beaverdam Swamp Reservoir. Tiger bass are a hybrid cross between northern and Florida largemouth bass. They provide increased trophy potential compared to largemouth bass and a higher tolerance to cold winter temperatures than Florida bass.
At the Smith Mountain Lake stocking, shown in the photos, 75,000 F1 bass were stocked. The goal of these stockings is to increase the trophy bass potential of these fisheries. DGIF staff used boats to access selected prime nursery habitats (shallow banks, fallen trees, vegetation) for introductions. They use this stocking method in an effort to increase survival and dispersal of stocked fish.
DGIF Fisheries Biologist Dan Wilson has been actively evaluating the F1 bass stockings in Smith Mountain Lake over the last few years. Dan has tracked trends in the number of fish over 4 lbs and also collected genetic samples to identify the prevalence of Florida bass genes in fish of this size class. #workingforwildlife"

If this is the same Beaverdam as the local one, this is great news.  I've bass fished in FL and the Tiger bass fight almost as good as a smallie - and they are mean!
