Beaverdam Reservoir 6/12/20

I got out early and waited for the guy to open the gate (6:08am).  There were 3 cars behind me (2 kayaks and a pelican type boat).  I put in and ran upstream.

After trying different baits, I got no bites.  No topwater, spinnerbait or crankbait bites.  Only got nibbles on the UL.  I ran down toward the dam gradually and tried a swimbait with an underspin and swimbait on one of George's SWM jigs.  I got a hookup on the underspin, but never got a hookset and it threw the bait.  I was moving and casting/dragging the swimbait.  As I got near some deeper water I got a good hit and the fight was on!  It was a big fish and fought hard.  I was not sure what it was until I got it near the boat.  It was a BIG LM!  I was able to grab the net and finally got the fish to the boat.

I tried to measure it and take a picture, but I could not get it all in the picture.  I was pretty pumped up.  I ended up taking 2 pictures to show the length.  Just short of 20.5" and FAT.

I was very happy to catch that fish as I was targeting big ones mostly.  The wind picked up and I tried drifting around , but got no more bites.

There were a lot of kayaks and a few other boats.  I ended up eating my sandwich and slowly drifting back toward the put in.  I was off the water a little before 12pm.

It was a nice day.  Sunny and a breeze.  Great day to be on the water!

Nice slob!!

One of those kayaks was Paul, he got a few. Maybe he will tell the story.

Inquiring minds want to know, how do you target only big ones? That's all I ever want to catch! cool

Time to go fishin' again!

I started thinking deeper water near cover.  They seemed to like swimbaits today.  Wind kills me on that lake.  I was not trusting my battery life.

Nice one! I was the guy behind you with the 2 kayaks. I got 2 blowups on a whopper plopper early but no hookup .... threw everything I had for 2 hours and got a couple bumps on swim jig but no set. My buddy picked up a small LMB on red texas rig worm. It was a beauty of a day to be out there.
