Beaverdam Reservoir 6/2/20

I got out early and had to wait for them to open the gate a little before 6:00am.  I was alone for the first hour or two.  Water was beautiful and the flooded trees and bushes make good new cover.

I did not get any bites for a while.  I ran upriver to the top and finally caught a 14" chunk on my UL with a 4" lizard.

It was good to get the skunk out.  I worked my way back down reservoir and saw some kayaks and a pontoon type boat,  I hooked another bass on the lizard working a point,  This one was a little shorter and not as fat.

I worked my way down to across from the ramp and hooked a better fish trolling a skinny dipper.

I was crossing back over to the East side when Ernie called.  He was hiking on the trail and checked up on my luck.  After that I missed a fish working the flooded trees near mid-lake.  I came back over toward the East side and was doing the same.  There was grass and the water was shallower.  I decided to eat my lunch.  I cast a weedless ned rig out.  I was reeling it back in when I saw a decent bass following it.  I stopped my retrieve and saw the bass eat it.  It ended up being my biggest fish of the day at just over 16 inches.

I worked that area a little more after eating my sandwich and hooked a little catfish on the ned.  I tried some other lures and worked that mid-lake area with flooded trees.  I did not get any more bites and my trolling motor was feeling a little weak, so I slowly headed back to the ramp.  I guess there were about 6-7 other boats on the lake and a couple kayaks came in right before me.  I had to wait for one guy loading a pelican type pond boat.  Took his time.

I got off the river about 1:30pm.  Nice to be back on Beaverdam.  I think the new cover will help the bass population.  Lost one good crankbait in a tree.

Nicely done John...and great to see that the rez is alive and well.

Avery only caught one from shore, a green sunnie...

...but she had a good time. We will have a different plan of attack for the next trip.

Then she finds this!

She told me...I forgot. They handled the water well.

Looks like the snakes are frolicking too! Wonder if they hit chatter baits.
