ISO Trout

Over the past three weekends I've gone out several times in search of trout in Maryland.  I've checked out the Little Patuxent River, Centennial Lake, the Middle Patuxent River, Patapsco River in Daniels, and Fountain Rock Park which was the only place I saw any trout.  It was a very small spring fed pond and the fish were not eating at all.  So instead I took my dog to the Ballenger Creek dog park.

I know there were trout in the Little Pax, but that was in late Jan before the heavy rains.

The only fish caught were in the Middle Patuxent.  I was excited at first when something pulled back, but it was just this fallfish followed by several more.  They all bit a yellow trout magnet.

The Patapsco really wouldn't be too fishable without waders or a kayak to get around or at least across.

This past Saturday I ordered some waders that were delivered same-day.  Sunday I started at Catoctin Creek Park.  Not only did I not see any sign of trout, neither did some other guys I spoke with.  One said he has a friend that works for the state who said the hatchery didn't have good year.  We're kind of suspect about what's actually getting stocked.  It wasn't long before I moved on to the Antietam Creek at Devil's Backbone.  A good looking location and I did see a few trout caught.  But none for me.

Re: ISO Trout

Nice job getting out there! I really miss fishing those spots.

I spent a TON of time fishing the Little Patuxent River as I used to live a 5 minutes away. I used to stop by a lot before work during the stocking seasons. I spent many mornings in sub-freezing temps with ice on my rod guides fishing for trout. I fished the Middle Patuxent River a bit as well as my work was half a mile a way from an entry point and I would go during lunch some times. Feel free to hit me up with any questions.

Together we'll fight the long defeat.
