John and I couldn't go yesterday because we are both old guys that had doc appointments on a beautiful day!
We had settled on today but the rain forecast last night forced us to meet at 10a...
But after sleeping in, the radar showed no rain after 9a so we scurried to get the boat in the water. We were fishing by 10a.
It was so nice not freezing to death while running up river...just sayin'!
We hammered our 1st spot for over an hour and did not get a bite.
Then, we wanted to duplicate T.'s success yesterday so we hit the mouth of the Goose. I did see a huge ball of something under the boat. Must have been a crappie school but we had nothing for them. As well, the fish had nothing for us as we didn't get a bite.
So...we headed across the river to pick apart a nice rocky area.
I was throwing a Kietech swim bait on a SWM hook and I got bit! Hallelujah!
This nice 16.25" smallie made us happy!
After a bit, I picked up two nice largies, a 16" and a 15" on the same bait.
All of this happened in less than 45 minutes.
I stopped to eat lunch and I decided to throw my expensive Megabass suspending jerk bait. I was pausing it like you are supposed to and I felt a tug...
...a nice 16"er!
A few minutes later, as I was adjusting my stogie, I got bit again but was too slow on my hook set an lost it! Aargh!
We say some nice wild life including many eagles and this anaconda.
All of the fish caught and bites were in fairly shallow water near deeper water. If I had to do it all over again. I would make 3-4 drifts in this area and just pound them into submission.
It was a great day out, especially for February. Water temps stayed around 44df all day. Very little wind and totally comfortable!
I may be interested in chasing down those crappie in the future....I know a guy who has been doing well on them. Some know him as "blue boat".

That first one's a nice one
Ernie - nice to have a photographer on board, right?
Don't worry John, Ernie schooled me on jerkbaits. That was before that magic day we had with jerkbaits

Seems like a lot more LMB in the area than in the summer.
