Train Derails into Potomac River Near Harpers Ferry

Pretty close to here....

A freight train crossing the Potomac River near Harpers Ferry derailed early Saturday morning and plummeted into the water.

The train was passing over Winchester and Potomac Railroad bridge near Sandy Hook Road in Sandy Hook, Maryland.

The locomotive did not fall off the tracks, but several rail cars landed in the water. No injuries were reported.

Maryland State Police, Washington County fire, Loudoun County fire, the National Park Service and other agencies responded about 3:30 a.m.

The tracks are dedicated to CSX freight rail service and run next to a popular pedestrian footbridge. The derailment is visible from the town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.

Amtrak service in the area is not expected to be affected.

I wonder if it's the same cause and what has caused several derailments at Horseshoe Curve in PA.  They're saying the derailed cars are empty.   Empty cars up front, heavy loaded cars at the rear, plus a sharp curve.   Physics tells you that's a bad idea.
