8-14-19, Chesapeake Bay

John and I wanted to do all fly at the secret spot today.

We were on the water at 7:20a...

...and fishing shortly thereafter.

Things were slow...on an outgoing (but fast) tide. The N wind was helping the tide run along.

Anyway, John got the skunk off with a teeny striper...

...and then I got mine off with a WP.

We caught some here and there. Sometimes we would catch 5-6 in a few minutes and then 30 minutes without a hit.

As the tide dropped, things got even slower.

We tried everything, I even caught a spot!

Then we went to the rock pile where we caught a few more an then...the big hit! A big fat cat took John's fly and ran. But John is used to handling big fish so he played him...

...and I was able to land it for him.

We caught a few more WP and this guy went 11"! I think my biggest was 10.5" and we did get a few other 10's.

The tide was all the way out so we decided to eat lunch. You can always count on John to make an Italian Store run the night before!

Very satisfying, to say the least!

We were going to start fishing again but the wind got cool and it started to get dark. We made the decision to get under the secret bridge just in case. While we were hanging out, we saw 5-6 small boats heading back to the ramp, including DNR. So...we headed in. Off the water just after noon.

Not sure that the skies opened up but it did rain. We were both OK with pulling out.

The fishing was slow. Not sure if it was because we were fly fishing or because the tide stayed low so long.

Regardless, John got to take home a few chunky perch and we had a good day out on the water.

Time to go fishin' again!

Great report, I want some of that sandwich. Bet you could get some nice specks on the fly down in VA waters.

Glad you guys caught some on the fly. It's a shame you didn't get to enjoy one of the kitties.
CB had a light west wind all morning with the outgoing tide. Perch bit well, but smaller average size than Monday. Did get two 22" stripers along with 6 perch over 10.5" (neighbor will be happy). This makes two trips for me with NO CATS!

Good job, guys!  I tried the UP this afternoon and skunk-o!  Had some blow ups on the tiny buzzbait, but no hook-ups.  Water is very low.
