Northern Neck 5/18

I had a lot to do this weekend, but the forecast looked too good so I had to go fishing! Headed down to the bay on Saturday morning and was on the water between the Potomac and Rappahannock at 7:30am. I forgot that the sun comes up before 6am this time of year or I would have gone out much earlier!

I started throwing topwater lures and caught stripers up to lower slot size in the shallow water of the marsh. They were really aggressive, hitting and fighting hard. Eventually I got some small specks too, they were biting mirrolures mostly. Biggest were maybe 14.5".

Didn't see any blues, reds, or puffers, but there were cownose rays absolutely everywhere, never seen so many. I'm sure they'll be in the upper bay soon.

A stiff East wind came up around 2pm and it got to be a too much for my little boat to handle so I had to head in. Got soaked from head to toe on the ride back to the dock. Altogether I probably caught 10 stripers and 5 specks. Short but fun day on the water.
