Upper Potomac 3/29/19

I ran into Ernie and Bob at the ramp a little before 8:00am.  Not planned, but I knew they were going out.  Water clarity was better and the level was right around 5 foot at POR.  Ernie ran further upriver, so I started at the head of and island.  Nada.  Worked the flooded island a little and managed a major backlash when my back cast caught a branch with my chatterbait.  I did not get any bites there.  I ran across the river and found out I could not unhook my anchor to attach the drag chain.  I messed with it, bit it was jammed.  I decided to run back to the VA side and float the island.  I had to either float or anchor.  My first bite came mid morning on a tube near shore.  It was a 17.75" chunk that really helped brighten my day.

I floated and hooked another fish on the tube, but it got off.  I ended up working that area again and did not get a bite until near the end of the island where I anchored.  I lost one fish and then finally hooked up with this 14.5" LM (on a tube) that looked a little beat up on one side.  It had a super red mouth from eating crayfish.

I caught one more fish about 20 minutes later, but it was the same dumb LM.  I was off the water by 4pm and avoided the ramp fiasco of yesterday.  I think the fish are on the move and spreading out some.  Should be better as the water temps stay near 50 or above.

Nice going!

Both Bob and I left our tubes behind but I wanted to concentrate on moving baits so it worked out.

I tried a lot of baits.  Chatterbait (until I birdnest), Keitech swimbait, spinnerbait, 3" ika (caught LM 2nd time), several crankbaits, 1 jerkbait, spinner jig, jig and chunk.  Just happened I caught them on the tube
