I had brought the boat home earlier in the week to get her ready to fish but the forecasts did not look good, nice temps but high water and high winds. So I took the boat back after fiddling around it for a bit.

Yesterday morning, the POR forecast was 6.6' (heck, we've done 6.3') and the winds out of the SSW. That meant we could be protected hugging the VA shoreline.

So...John and I met up at 7:30a to get the boat out of the barn and by 8:15a we were up and running.

We hit our 1st spot for a bit, working eddies along the way. I may have had a bite but not sure. I don't think John got a bite.

After a slow while, we decided to head up river and attack a certain area by coming up on it rather than drifting down.

I think the strategy paid off. We each got a bite and then John declared, "get the net". I knew he had a nice fish on!

He caught in on a J & P (paca craw). The fish was 18"+ and was fat and very healthy! He said that the fish slammed his bait.

Meanwhile, I was fishing a tube and no more than 5 minutes later, I felt my bait being sucked in (just like when they get sucked in by a rock in current) so I set the hook and declared, "get the net!".

This one was even fatter and a 1/4" bigger!

Both fish were healthy and well fed!

We do not believe that we got any bites after that and were off the water by 1:30p.

So now we have caught fish when the river is at 6.6' at POR. I believe that we can do it at 7', or more, as long as the water has some green in it which it did today.

Did I say it was a spectacular day to go fishing??

Great day on the SS Rojas!  Thanks for the last minute trip and congrats on your early season pig!  I did have one nice fish swim after my jig while reeling in to cast again before we left.
