Today, members of the Potomac River Smallmouth Club....

...met up at Lander to do a float down to Point of Rocks. Originally, we were going to do from Brunswick to POR but the weather forecast suggested that we shorten the trip and end at noon. That was a good decision!

This was the 5th attempt to do this float. I think we 1st planed it for early June. Water levels have been tough on river floats.

I fished on Steve Kimm's pontoon.

Such a nice ride and no work for me! And he is an expert on the oars!

Off we went...it was a bit pushy but the water looked good!

We all scattered but we could hear Terry every time he caught a fish...or got snagged!

Anyway, Steve maneuvered the boat and I was able to take the skunk off quickly. No clue where the obligatory 1st fish pic went. Then Steve took his skunk off with a 12 incher but he "dropped" it in the water before I could get a pic!

I did try the plopper but got no hits so as Steve was moving us, I switched to a Sammy knockoff and soon, I got blasted by a very healthy 18incher!

We then picked off one here and there and then Steve got this nice 15 incher right behind the rock.

I also scored on a 15 incher.

For the 1st half of the trip, the wind was a factor...very annoying. And it got chilly!

We moved some more...

...and then Steve got hit and landed this very fat 17 incher!

Before I netted it, I declared that it was a 19 incher, Steve called it at 18". It was 17" but fat! Nice fight too!

The water was so nice....

We ended the trip around noon, a little after the yakers took out. They left us some kind of signal or message...

I had a note on my truck with everyone's catches but I don't think they got pictures:

Clyde got a 20" catfish and took a nice swim at the takeout.

Terry caught 16 fish with his two biggest at 13 & 14".

Bernie caught 9 fish with his biggest also at 18".

Steve caught 6-7 fish with his big one at 17" and I caught 4 with the 18 incher making my day!

After we put everything away, Steve, Terry and I stopped in at Vanish so Steve could get something to eat. The beers were good and the place was packed.

Great day out and we felt fortunate to get a 1/2 day in before the monsoons take the river gauges back up to unfishable conditions.

Need to work that area in the sled but unfortunately, it won't be any time soon. Florence may be raining on our parade.

MD side of POR is closed for repairs. VA side is just so nasty....but with the higher water, I should have no issues putting in there. Would rather put in at Lander. The question is...when will the river be fishable again? Flo will bring more water early next week. POR gauge looks like it will be 29' for a while....

Don't matter where you launch now.  I'm sure we have enough water you could run up Knoxville Falls all the way to Dargon Bend

The river always recovers
