John and I met up at 6a and were on the water shortly thereafter...what a beautiful morning!

67 degrees at the start and John had a jacket on...

We started at a very well known, close by place where John spotted some fish chasing bait. Once the boat was in position, it was game on!

This 17.25 incher hit a custom painted Whopper Plopper!

This fish hit 4 times before getting hooked...just kept the WP moving along until he got hooked. What blast!

John was happy for me but not satisfied and a few short moments later, his WP gets slammed.

Just short of 19"! Great fight...caught in a foot of water.

I was able to get a 15.25" smallie on the jerk bait and John got a few more small ones.

Once that bite died off, we moved up river after the 6 that we caught here.

I managed to tie John (4-4) while drifting the MD shoreline and then things slowed down. But we did manage to pick up a fish here and there. Most were 13-15 inches and all plump, giving us great fights!

The next one was mine (I would throw them back before John could get a pic) and I led 5-4...for a while anyway.

The wind (SE) picked up a bit and really slowed our drift down. The wind was greater than what predicted.

John caught the next 3, taking the lead.

Then it got really slow. We threw everything and anything but nothing hit until John gets slammed by this channel cat.

With about 30 minutes left, I caught 2 more smallies in the 13-14 inch range to tie John (in smallies) but we could not get anything else and we called it a day at 1pm as I had stuff to do at home.

Great day out, pleasant temps and we got some clouds later in the day.

Every day is different out there. You can fish the same spots and they chose when to bite...or not. Regardless, we caught some and lost 7 (that we counted), a couple of them making spectacular runs and jumps before they spit the hooks out!

Time to go fishin' again!

Great day on the water!  I was beat from a long week of fishing.  That morning bite was wicked!  The big ones just slurped down the ploppers and we had no idea how big they were until they started fighting.  I caught 3 in the first half hour there.  It is always a pleasure to fish with Ernie and we had a good day with very comfortable weather.  The fish are not always where you think they will be, but that keeps you sharp, looking for what they want.  I threw my underspin a lot, but it was not until I changed the color of the swim bait and game on...for a while.  I need to rest my shoulder up to get ready for battle again!
