Upper Potomac 5/29/18

With the river still high and more rain forecasted starting tomorrow, I weighed my options.  I really wanted to get out and the river had come down to about 5 feet at POR, but was forecasted to rise to about 6 feet by tonight.  I decided to take a chance and go for it.  Weather was humid and foggy in the morning, then mostly cloudy and in the mid 80's.  I was on the water by 6:00am.  It was heavily stained to chocolate milk mostly.  I ran up to my usual spot and floated down an island.  I lost one fish at the head of the island on a chatterbait, but that was it.  I decided to go further up to my high water spot and I at least got some bites.  All bites were on a keitech swim bait on a SWM had or swim jig and a tube.  Nothing really big, but enough action to keep me interested until lunch time.  I also caight one decent rock bass on the tube.  Bites were just a tick.

The bite dieed down after lunch and there was muddier water coming down with debris.  I moved around and finally decided to run up Goose Creek.  I ran to the fast water and was surprised to get some bites on the swim bait.  After stealing my bait twice, I finally caught one on the swim jig.  It was small, but chunky.  I used the tube to catch one more about the same size.  After that I ran back toward the ramp.  I stopped one more time to hit a swirly spot with some less stained water and caught one more smallie.

I ended up catching 9 fish total.  I did not take pictures of the smaller fish.  The river will take at least another week to come down and clear.  The water felt cool, but I do not have a guage.
