Invasive species symposium

Invasive species symposium was Sunday at BPS where I sat on the panel and answered questions. The must kill on snakeheads in MD and VA was demystified and clarified. You do not have to kill them and you can release them at the boat. Can not transport them alive however. But the PRFC has a must kill on there website. Both VA and MD said they will ask them to remove that.

We talked about blue cats and flatheads. Flatheads seem to be a non factor in the Potomac below DC since to date none have been shocked up.

I kept my mouth shut about that since in 1992 to 1996 I caught over 40 each in the 30 plus inch range. Have not since then. Well maybe one small one here or there.

This was a good example of how DNR in both MD and VA are now seeing the snakehead as a non threat and talking directly to the public.
