Suggestions where to launch a kayak on the Potomac? (new pic, 10/29)

Hey guys I could use your suggestions.

My brother-in-law is visiting from England and wants to float down the Potomac on Sunday (weather permitting).  We are looking for a recommendation for a 3 to 4 hour float and fish.  He is spending the funds for a license and kayak rental so I want avoid a disappointing trip.  With that, where should we put in and get out?  I missed the Labor day float so this will be my first time down the Potomac.

Thanks!

All the best,
Michael

I would recomend the Landers to Point of Rocks float. Any thing else could take a long time with the slow flow rate. It is only a couple of miles and you can take your time and fish the points and ledges in that area.

If the float has not been completed yet, it may be a little faster with all of the recent rain... but sill enjoyable!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!

Thank you for the suggestions.  We decided to put in at Point of Rocks, floating and fished (mostly fished) for 3 hours and ended up paddling back to Point of Rocks.  Great time.  We caught about six SMB each ranging from, "how'd he get his mouth around the grub?" to a little over 12 inches.  My brother-in-law who was visiting from England had a great time even though his average cost per fish was over $12 (USD) based on a 5 day license and the kayak rental.

How will the colder temps affect the SMB fishing in the Potomac and Shenandoah?

Thanks again for all the suggestions and God bless.

Couldn't figure out how to post a picture.  I clicked on the img tag, tried cut and paste etc... nothing worked.  Any suggestions for the tech-challenged?

Michael,

1. I have an extra kayak that is ready for use...all you have to do is let me know when you need it

2. Smallies still eat but they go deeper so finding the big holes (near ambush points) is the secret

3. If you use photobucket, use the bottom link. That's the only way i know how. Perhaps one of the younger and more technically astute members can direct you otherwise

Smallmouth won't chase baits as much in cold water. Try casting tubes up river and let them drop down over sumerged ledges to the fish waiting below the current.
