Mike Schulte and I were supposed to fish with Captain Lee Egan of Sea Horse Charters on Friday but it was blowing 30-40 with 8-12 foot seas so we decided to stay in.



On Saturday, it was much better. The wind was only blowing about 10-15 and the seas had calmed to 6 or less. The boat is a 46' Markley Bay Built. We met at the dock at 8 AM and to our nice surprise, there was only one other fisherman with us, Alan the Englishman, as well as Harry the mate. We have fished with Alan and Harry before so off we went looking for snappers!

The style of fishing we do on the Sea Horse is "drift fishing". We have a triple hook set up (stingers) using a sardine on a Carolina Rig....about 100 feet down! There is no jigging involved but you do feel the bite an when you do, you give them a few feet of line and start cranking them in.

Mike started  catching some nice blue runners.....



and a very fat yellowtail!



and Alan got into the yellow tail snappers!



By 9 AM, Alan was already drinking beer (he only does that after he catches a few fish) and I was just watching! Actually, I was using one of the boat rods and it was a bit on the heavy side. I am not used to heavy tackle and I was missing the bites! Captain Lee noticed my frustration and he let me use his rod; within a few minutes, I had my 1st  mutton snapper!



And then a trigger fish......

and then a blue runner (no pic) and finally, my 1st (but not last) yellow tail snapper!!



I am sure that is some kind of a slam but it was just nice to catch some fish. We even got Capt. Lee to join in the fun. he had just messed up his ankle playing racket ball and was hobbling along...until he hooked in to a nice one!



We ended up catching 19 yellow tail snappers, 3-4 blue runners, a half a dozen triggerfish and 5-6 mutton snappers. We had an incredible yellowtail snapper dinner on Saturday night.

On Monday morning, I rented a kayak and did a little info gathering of Lake Worth. I had my fly rod with me and actually hooked into a nice fish but I lost him after a few seconds. It was windy and the tide was ripping so I had a great workout!



Now I know what to bring for the next trip.
