8-18-17, UP

Paul and I met up at 6:00a in hopes of getting a half day in.

We splashed the boat, took off and an engine beep comes on. Overheating...no pee! We tried to see what the deal was including taking the boat out of the water but we cold not make it pee. Called Jim down at JRJ and he said, bring it in.

So...do we quit or use the trolling motor? We opted for #2 and headed over to the ledges which we worked really hard!

It was muggy for sure....

...but we had a light breeze that helped out.

Here is the picture story....

That 18 incher was a brute!

This one was special, even though it was "only" a 14 incher. Paul called out the rock and bam!

All told, we caught 8 smallies and a long ear BG!

Well, Paul caught them all. I just guided him to the fish! tongue

We took out early so I could get the boat into the shop to see what the deal was. The ramp at Algonkian is really silted in and I think I sucked in some junk which clogged the water pump. Let's hope that's all it is. Gonna need to figure out a better way to splash the boat with all of that silt.

Anyway, we made lemonade out of lemons and had a good few hours in before the heat moved in.

Nice couple fish!  Sorry to hear about the boat.  Hope it is nothing serious.  That is a shallow ramp,

I have to change my routine. I've always started the engine and assisted pulling out as we are backing out. The angle puts that boot too close to the muck. From now on, the rollers will do the work. Lesson learned.

BTW, the area we worked was probably 250 x 75 yds.

I forgot to mention my crankbait catch. Threw it right behind a ledge and got bit right away. Then....snap! The line broke about 3/4" up from the knot. Maybe it rubbed on a rock? Meanwhile, Paul sees a smallie jump out of the water and he throws to it.  Right then, the the smallie spit something out on is way down. Paul says. "I think that's your lure"! No way...but yes way, we retrieved the crankbait sans smallie.

That is really cool!  I have lost fish that way, but never got the lure back.
