We had an 0700 report in time and an 0800 boat launch time but we were worried that some of the participants would not show up due to the weather.
Well, these guys aren't military vets for nothing. 17 of the 20 that signed up showed up with a couple of extras thrown in.
Army had the most followed by the Marines and then the Navy. A cool story is that a young Navy woman and I were chatting and it happens that we were both an ABH (Aviation Boatswain Mate or plane handler). These are the folks you see on a carrier deck with the yellow, green and red shirts on. One of the most dangerous jobs in the service. Story to be told is that I was in the Navy reserves for 6 years and never set foot on a boat. The young lady was a yellow shirt which are the folks that handle the airplanes on a carrier deck. Very impressive.
Most of the participants fished through the rain.
The shore winner caught 50 fish! All verified! Mostly blue gill but 1 crappie that went .6 lbs and won biggest shore fish. Many warmouths as well.
The boat winner came in at 11 pounds. Several 3 pounders were caught as well as a 4.5 pounder! The boat captains belong to a local club and donated their time and energy for this great event. Kudos to them. One guy had a pontoon and took a family out. He had a surprise for them when he took them to his house and they had a huge breakfast!
One of the boat captains was a high school senior who has been fishing for a long time and running a boat before he could drive.
Lunch was BBQ but I was too busy eating it to take pictures. And QOK, a local singing group from Ashburn (Broad Run grads) came by to sing a few songs at lunchtime.
Another great event in the books!
Here are some cell phone pics....and yes, it was wet and cold but no one seemed to mind!

Another cool story was of Sandy. She was a 14 year vet of the Army, nurse. She was born in Trinidad & Tobago and we hit it off as we were fellow islanders. But she had never fished before. It took her a while in the rain but she managed 7 fish and was a happy lady. I got a big hug when she left....
