I'll be in LA next week and will have a couple of days open. Anyone know of a good C&R guide?
Thanks!

I don't know of any Mustafa (I haven't lived there in years) but try to get out to catalina island for fishing in the kelp beds.....I remember that being pretty awesome.

Yes I've heard wondrous things about the kelp beds. My time is limited, but I'm hoping to learn about all my options to maximize the best fishing opportunity.
Thanks bro

c&r is unheard of in the salt
Go down to queens wharf in long beach, take a head boat out & catch fish to your hearts content.

I saw a TV special on this guy, but can not vouch for his guide service. Those calico bass look like fun.

Yeah I'm starting to see that. All the kayak fishing guides are closer to San Diego. I was trying to avoid the party boat as best I can. Mainly because I can't take any fish home..

Yeah I also saw another saltwater fly fishing guide that looked good. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to fly fish!

They all do spinning rod also.. by having a fly guide you will get a little closer to the fish for sure.

That's a nice idea let's see what my options are once I'm on the ground over there. Thanks again for all the suggestions

I'll reach out to him then. I reached out to the other guy I found (http://saltytalesfishing.com) asking if he does spinning and he didn't respond back.
Maybe I need to book fly fishing lessons with you so I don't run into this problem in the future

I've hired this guy (http://saltytalesfishing.com) Vaughn Podmore. He's very good. I fished Long Beach harbor for kelp/sand bass and had a great time, but I was throwing bugs. I've actually got a trip booked with him for the summer to go out into the Pacific for bonito and yellowtail. It says on his website he'll do spin, you may want to just give him a call.
There's a place in Orange County that rents fishing kayaks for the harbor, but I haven't tried them out yet. http://www.oexsunsetbeach.com/kayak-fishing.html

If you rent a yak go up into the back bay of Newport - read the tide and you'll do good

On the ground in LA and got some plans setup. I contacted Capt Bill Matthews from www.flytimeflyfishing.com (thanks Capt Mike) and he was very gracious, but unfortunately on his way out of town. He referred me to Capt Vaughn Podmore from www.saltytailsfishing.com (same gentleman crankbaitguy had experience with) who was a fantastic guy to speak with but unfortunately booked up. He referred me to Capt Ben Florentino ( www.fishcoastalcharters.com) who was so genuine and luckily available, so we have a trip setup Tuesday
Will report back after the trip
