Let me know when you get that 18 Foot James River Jet! Mr. Starkey is a nice guy. I'd love to check it out and see how it performs. Are you going for a stick steer? How wide are you planning to go?
I launched my Xpress out of Algonkian the other day and had some success with the small mouth around the mouth of Broad Run Creek. Didn't catch any monsters, but I am still learning how to fish small mouth. Saw lots of channel catfish in about 3 feet of water, it was a blast. I really do enjoy shallow water fishing, especially since we live so close to the Upper Potomac.

Should be done in 11-12 weeks or so.....1866 with a 115/80.
Decided to go for regular steering as it is a CC.

Most of my fishing (on my boat) now is shallow water...and you are right, we are close to some nice water at times.

My only real complaint is when the hydrilla and grass get heavy during the summer. My jet got clogged up a few times last week with the leaves and dead grass. It's a pain in the butt having to stop and clean it out all the time. I'm slowly learning the River and try to avoid those spots.
It's part of the reason that I bought a 17ft Sea Ark this summer (with a 50hp Mercury Prop. Now I've got a boat for both situations.
1866 is a good size boat, and the motor you picked out is too. What make / model motor did you end up getting? Is it a 2 stroke or 4 stroke?
Even though it adds weight, I think having a decent sized fuel tank is important. I often find myself carrying an extra gas can for those long runs up river. The 2 stroke outboard jet motors like to drink the gas. Fun boat though! I plan on taking my boat out on Friday in search of some crappie at the mouth of the Goose.

2 stroke Tohatsu
Boat has a decent V up front for my other fishing.

Update- just got the boat back from D & S. Decided to replace the steering since the old one was getting tight, got trailer bearings checked and lubed, water separator filter and lower unit oil replaced.
They say that this time a year is a tough time to sell a boat. Well, let's get it sold!
