lost a beast today!

Went for bass in the sub-freezing temps today.  No bites for the first 20 minutes, and then a solid hookup.  Definitely a huge grass carp.  Fought it for 20-25 minutes in 6 lb test and got it up to shore.  Over 4 feet long and 60+ lbs.  What a beast! Then as I was reaching down to grab it the line broke as it thrashed again.  Gone and swam away....... sad .  Maybe next time tongue .

20 minute fight! Worth the cold. With what/how did you hook that thing? What a coincidence as I was just thinking about these things and what they do during the winter.

Re: lost a beast today!

I caught a big gar a while back the I snagged near the tail and every time I got it near the boat it would splash the .... out of me when I tried to grab it.  Of course I did not have a net and it took quite a while to land it.  I have foul hooked quite a few carp in the colder months.  Always makes for a heck of a fight.

Re: lost a beast today!

Took a friend out this afternoon and we had 9 commons to 20lbs on the tidal Potomac... a 60lb grasser will certainly make the drag sing!
