Ted Shaw, Raquel Sosnowski and I had our names drawn out of a hat at the June NoVA CCA meeting. The prize was a fishing trip out of Kent Narrows w/Capt. Gary Neitsey. one of my favorite guides. They picked 3 alternate names as well....sure, we were going to pass this up!
We met at the ramp at 7a and went on out to the bay....
But before we went too far, we got on some breaking fish and we all caught a few. But Raquel caught the biggest one!
Ted and I did OK...
Jigs w/ plastic and L'il Bunkers were the ticket!
We then made a move and talked to a good friend but the fish were barely up so we made a bold move.....
...nothing home here so we kept moving.
When we stopped to look around, it was barren. Capt. Gary had been on them yesterday but they were no where to be found.
Finally, we had a few come up but that died off quickly so we looked some more. Then...Raquel spots some breaking fish and we got on them for a long time!
At one point, I asked Ted about how many fish we had caught. He guesstimated at 150 and in the 2 minutes that we were having that chat, I caught 5 of them.
It was fast and furious at our last stop. Striper thumb and sore hands were in order! I threw top water most of this time. Even when I threw the toothache spoon, I would rip it on top.
A bluefish cut my Surface Tension lure off and I put on a slash bait. It took me one cast to start nailing them. Gary was ready to throw bare hooks.
We had breaking fish all around us without having to run and gun. We would just push the boat a bit.
At one time, it sounded like a massive rain shower there were so many fish breaking. We all laughed and giggled like kids. It was summer fishing at it's best.
In many ways, this was a superb day with a great crew!
