Several stars lined up that allowed me to go fishing this morning, the biggest one being I woke up early enough haha. I decided to try my luck with top water since I've never caught anything with any top water. I probably just haven't put in enough time or fished the right places. From what I understand, it doesn't seem like we have many top water fishy spots in Ashburn. Today I tried a hallowed body frog on the big A. No love for me, but I also didn't see any top water activity. It was relatively cool this morning and overcast. Is it generally better to have a hot and sunny morning for top water?

It's generally better to fish top water when the stars align.....you take what you get!
Low light and muggy is always good but I have had fish take a top water bait at high noon with the sun blasting down. Scummy edges are always good.
Glad you got out!

typically, you'd want overcast and low light for top water. but not all bass are typical, as Ernie pointed out. I've caught them on sunday days as well. they won't be out in open water though. I'd fish them near some type of cover.

Those are the non-religious fish.

You got out and got some practice anyway. Keep trying. Low light or cloudy is best. Muddy, shallow water can be good too.

Thanks for all the pro tips!
