6/24- Captain Mikeville

Decided to go hunt some northern snakeheads and bass tonight. I got a bit of a later start than I wanted and didn't help the matter any when I realized I didn't have a paddle in the truck. Fortunately I was only in Herndon at the time but I still lost another 30 minutes.

In the tradition of Capt. Mike I still started the evening off right. Due to the lost time I enjoyed it on the water instead of at the tailgate.

The tide was low when I got out so I decided to throw a swimbait in the main channel coming off the weed line. It was tough to find a decent area to fish because of the wind. I found a leeward point and got absolutely clobbered by a NSH. I threw at the same spot and had two hits and a hookup. He threw the hook halfway to the boat. Apparently unlike frogs where they eat the whole thing, it appears as if they target the wiggling tail. The two on the left used to look like the one on the right.

As the tide started coming up I headed off the main channel. Shortly after 6:00 the switch flipped on. After a few missed hits I got this beast. 6.5 lbs on the scale.

The LMB lit up too. Here's a couple of samples. Check out the gash on the 2nd one.

I ended up landing 3 NSH and 6 bass. I had at least 5 other snakehead chases, hits or hookup and lost. I also had a bunch more bass eat including a nice one in the 4 to 5 lb class which threw the hook when it jumped about 2 feet out of the water. If the wind weren't blowing so hard I'm sure I would have had a lot more.

Can't wait to get back out there.

Re: 6/24- Captain Mikeville

I hit it again last night and the fishing was definitely a lot slower than on Friday. I did manage to land one small snakehead and had a few other chases and hits, as well as 3 bass.

Capt Mike came by to say hi and we worked over an area pretty well but couldn't get the fish to cooperate. I had one other hit just as we split off into 2 different directions but didn't connect. I got my 3rd bass on the way back to the ramp.

So while the fishing wasn't as good as Friday, it was still oddly satisfying and I learn new stuff about that place all the time. I was on my long paddle back against the current and Mike was motoring back and offered me a lift. Knowing I had work early this morning, I didn't refuse his offer. Thanks Mike!
