6-11-16, Chesapeake Bay

Round 2!

So....this is how it goes. Midweek, Jamie sent out an email to a bunch of folks saying Capt. Dennis had a 4 hour trip open for today. Of course, I jumped on it and told him I was in. Rats...wait!  I forgot I was having some minor face (near eye) surgery on Friday so no way I can go. But...I decide to call the doc and told her I would take it easy and cover up and that we were only fishing a few hours anyway and would be done before noon. She said, "OK but take it easy and DO NOT TOUCH the affected areas". And also, "get no sun on it!". I called Jamie back and said that we were good to go but he said no one else responded so we needed a third. I got a hold of Greg and he was more than willing and able.

Then last night, Capt. Dennis said that something had come up and he could not go but Capt. Dale was available and asked if we still wanted to go. Heck yes!! I've known Dale so off we went and we met up at the ramp at 0515.

Another beautiful day!

We started in an area that had been holding bigger fish (some on top) and we got a few but it was slim pickings! Here is a keeper....

We then made a short move and started catching a bunch. Greg and Jamie were throwing wincheaters, some jigs and Jamie even threw the fly a bit. I mainly stuck with top water and I was glad I did, scoring a couple of keepers!

We all caught a bunch but never found the big ones. I think they are moving north a bit.....but we were always ready!

Before we headed back, we stopped where we started but the fish were smaller. Here is Jamie's smallie!

On the way back, we stopped on an edge to see if we could jig up a few but time ran out and back we went. We did stop at a favorite perch hole and made a few casts....a couple of stripers were willing but no perch.

We were off the water by 1045, satisfied that we caught a bunch.

See....I was covered up!

Early up and a long drive for a 1/2 day of fishing is more than worth it as we were more than satisfied...especially with our stop at the Wagon Wheel for BBQ. Man....it was good! 1st stop there for the year. Should have taken some pictures....

We felt no heat...it was perfect. Water temps are 72 or so.

Would not have wanted to be out in the PM though!!

Chesapeake Beach one day and Deale the next. Not normal launch sites for either of your captains. Good reports both days.

Great report. What time do you need to leave the Ashburn area to get out there by 0515 (are they launching out of the Annapolis area or elsewhere)?

We launched out of Chesapake Beach just south of Deale. It's about 70 miles so we can make it in less than 90 minutes. I think Greg picked me up at 3:45.
