Today, the international crew (John Nguyen, Viet Nam; Todd Kim, Korea and me, Cuba) went our early (0530) with Capt. Brady Bounds.
Forecast was for a perfect day with 9-13mph winds.....simply beautiful (and chilly) in the morning!
We stated with top water but no one was looking up so John and Todd changed to windcheaters and I stayed with top water. They out fished me by about 6-1! But we all caught fish about this size....
We then moved to the lee of where we were and caught a bunch more including Todd catching some on the fly.
But we wanted some keepers so we moved into an area I suggested where many of us have caught a few fish. The fish were either on one side of the point or the other. They were on the other and we scored big! 1st keeper!
We were all catching but I had a pretty hot hand catching 5 in a row (consecutive cats) twice!
For those who know Poplar Island, this is the south side...lots of work going on!
At this point, the wind was as predicted....about 22 mph (9 + 13= 22) and we had whitecaps and a bumpy ride so we slid into Knapps Narrows....
....to try to find some clan water and places to fish.
FAIL! Water was dirty and we got little to no reprieve from the wind. Stuff happens! So back across we went in 2-3 footers. Bumpy was the word of the moment. We actually stopped to rest and we started marking fish....and catching them.
Maybe a dozen....I caught 1!
Brady even got this little one to hit that big 5" piece of iron!
We had a good time...caught 60+ fish or more. Ate some nice subs, smoked some good stogies and came back safe!
