Rose River (creek really), 9-18-15

I had a conference at Graves Mountain Lodge (gee, I wonder who suggested it) and since it ended at noon on Friday, Maynard, Gary and I got in 4 hours of trout fishing.

You can see them just waiting to be caught....

....but not that easy. It was high noon and blue bird skies. It took many a presentation and varying retrieves to get them to bite.

Still...we got some. My 1st one went 18ish...

...good thing Gary was quick with the camera because it took off!

I caught a few more, lost a few and then the big one took off running.

After a nice battle, Gary netted it...20+"! While this is my biggest trout to date...it was not my most memorable.

You have to be fast with the camera because they want back in the water!

You can see some facing upriver on the left side.

Just had to get another one before I gave my spot up to Maynard.

I switched places but the next hole was not too big. But it produced some chubs (who kept biting off my San Juan worm), smallies and sunnies.

There were 2 big trout in an undercut. Here is where applied some of what Joe Cap taught me. A side cast was necessary to present the fly under the overhang. When I did it, I got slammed and this guy came out!

On this fly!

And here he is resting before taking off....

This trout was my most memorable because I stalked it. I made the right cast and I got him in! It really felt good.

I did try to catch the bigger one as well but had not luck.

We then moved down stream to another pool where I had lots of success and as we were heading to the truck, they told me that Maynard also caught a 20 incher (pics later). Man...what a rush! Two twenties in Sept......we called it a day at around 4:30 PM...totally satisfied.

Wow! water looks so low.
What a great report.

It was very low but there were enough pools to get after them

Food, and plenty of it, is included in the price. They will give you a box lunch as well. Accommodations are very rustic. We had a cabin but Debbie decided against it as she didn't like the squatters that were living there.....stink bugs. So we moved to the motel part. It's an old, rustic place but we managed.

Nothing at all like the Yerts.

Ha! Did he do his own casting?

I can tell you that I've had many lessons and practiced a lot out back. It ain't easy but when it happens correctly...it is cool!

Love that area. Thankfully it's not too far of a drive for me.

Great report and pics.
