Fishmaster Sierra's Hawg @ Burke Lake

My daughter Sierra, who is 9, got tired of using live bait (worms) and asked me to show her how to use artificials. We decided to head up to Burke Lake since John Odenkirk said the big bass fishing there is pretty good.

I hooked up a wacky worm for Sierra to use but she got a bit frustrated because she did not know how to fish it properly. Also, she did not have the patience to fish it slow. I then hooked her up with a Heddon tiny torpedo since it has worked well for me at the Village. She specifically asked to use the topwater lure because she saw it being used on Youtube.

After several casts along the weed beds, there was a huge explosion on the fourth cast. Her micro rod bent like a twig and the fight was on. She was shaking with excitement and after what seemed to be an eternity, she landed the fish and dragged it to shore all by herself.

We did not have a scale but I would estimate it to be maybe four pounds. I'm awful at estimations. Not bad for her first time fishing with articifials!!

Unfortunately, fish was bleeding pretty heavily from the gills and the rear treble hook was deep in the gut. We had to harvest the fish because it died from the shock and bleeding.

She wanted me to share her story with you guys....

Sierra asked me to thank you guys for the kind remarks. Of all the great activities she has done this summer (Kings Dominion, Hershey Park, Myrtle Beach etc.) - she said catching this bass was by far the best.

It was nice for her to cap her summer vacation off with this lunker.

Ernie - thank you so much for posting the pcitures for us!!

Well damn !!! grats here thats awesome. Just shown Debb ie the picture and she has decided having seen that that we are utterly useless and should either give up fishing or twist the arm of one of you guys into taking us out one day to show us how to really fish for bass !  My reply is that for a bad of candy I bet we could get your daughter to show us how its done

You gotta love camera angles. That thing looks like a 10lber!

If it were easy, they'd call it catching!
