5-16-15, Pohick

What a gorgeous day to be fishing....

....I mean casting!

Everything was right for me and JC. The tide was high at 7 when we got up to the splits but I was worried because I never saw any fish in the clear water.

Still, we caught a few perch.

And JC caught this nice LMB!

We wore our arms out casting for snakies and never even had a blowup....

We even made a rescue! As we were headed to try some docks, I noticed a kid in the water and lots of kayaks going to him. We plucked him out!

Then we bailed the water out of his yak and sent him on his merry way.

It was a really slow day for us and for all the others out there. No clue as to why. We only had some perch bites and maybe 1-2 other bites. But we were satisfied that we gave it all we had!

Anyone recognize this house?

Wow, looks like you caught the biggest one of the day!  Thank goodness the kid was ok.  Too bad on the fishing.  Some days are like that,

Yes...I recognize it. 10 years of gorgeous views, and great fishing and boating minutes after waking up. But I gave it up to be close to the grandkids. A great upgrade in my opinion.

It's always a blast fishing with Ernie! Although I wouldn't have complained if we had caught more fish tongue 1 LMB, 2 white perch, 2 yellow perch. That was the total tally after ~6.5 hours of fishing. That's fishing. Nearly every spot we went to Ernie would tell stories of so-and-so catching fish here and there and all this jazz. Kept me entertained and hopeful, at least. He really has a 6th sense those as soon as we got to the creek he knew something was off. Tons of bait fish, and only that one bass to show. No signs of bass/snakie otherwise. Although we did see baitfish being corraled and jumping out of the water several times, but everything we threw in that direction came up empty. It was still cool to see since I haven't seen that before.

Catching that chunk was pretty awesome. Ernie did a great job netting the fish. I casted into a cut in the shore and a few seconds later, WHAM! It thrashed around a bit at first, and Ernie thought it was a snakehead. At that point I got anxious because that would have been my first. After we got it closer to the boat we saw it was a bass, but a good one! Got it in the boat, took pictures, and let it go. As we passed the spot where I caught the fish, we saw it was the perfect spot for bass. Right as the cut entered the creek it was pretty deep with a complex root system down there, good hiding spot for a bass.

After spending the majority of the day in the creek Ernie told me about the docks (of course where many people have caught fish) and asked if I wanted to go there or call it. Of course I wanted to go. Good thing too because it was on the way that we saw and rescued that kid. That was worth it, even thoguh we didn't catch anything at the docks.

All in all, a good way to start your Saturday smile

Together we'll fight the long defeat.

But I hauled many large 5+lb. bass from that dock...not too mention catfish, white perch, yellow perch, hickory and American shad, mud shad, carp, bluegills, and twice a year...stripers up to 15lbs. Fond memories...
