1-1-15 First Bass of the Year

There was lots of ice in all the protected areas, so I had to go to plan-B.  Fished my P&G to no avail for about an hour.  Switched to a senko-like soft bait and drug it across the bottom slowly just hoping for a dink to start the year off.  Was about to give up and felt a slight bump.  Pulled the line tight and there was a good pull-back.  I could tell it was a good fish, but it was sluggish during the fight.  Got her to shore and measured 20.5" and weighed in at 5 lbs 1 oz (5.06 lbs).  Nice way to start the year big_smile !

Yeah, lost another one today in the same spot that was 3-4 lbs.  Came unbuttoned at the shoreline before I could get a grip on it sad .

Got another set of weighing scales yesterday that weigh to 0.01 lbs...........can't wait to use them!

Nice fish Curly! Gives me hope that I can get some lines wet soon! Any idea on water temp? Anyone have an idea of when they usually start pre-spawn around here?

Water is probably around 35.  Pre-spawn usually starts around 2nd week of April......depends on water temp.
