10-16-14 Tidal Potomac

Got out for what we hoped would be an epic Fall bite day on an inlet off the Tidal Potomac.  Started early and I got the skunk out of the boat early with a healthy 13" LM on a chatterbait.  That bite did not hold up so Richard and I started working around the perimeter to an area with some blowdowns that usually holds some fish.  We were surprised when the clearer water near the inlet became murkier and there was hydrilla strands growing up out of 5' of water.  We worked around the back edge and I missed one more LM at the boat with the chatterbait.  Things slowed down and we worked back to a creek inflow and I caught a nice little striper on a spinnerbait.

We worked around the perimeter of the inlet and found hydrilla and stained water pretty much everywhere.  After a long while, we got some bites and I caught a healthy smallie near some blowdowns.  It was another long stretch of nada until Richard caught a bigger LM and his first of the day.

We were just about to call it a day after another dry spell when I hook a fish and Richard casts right behind me and catches one too.  We had a double - mine was another smallie (on a tube) and his was a nice chunky LM (on the speed craw).

Not a stellar day, but I was happy to catch 3 different kinds of fish and we did not get skunked.  We called it a day to beat the afternoon rush hour.
