10-13-14, out of Solomons

We (Bruce, John and Greg) met Capt. Dennis at 0645 in a misty rain. A rain that would last through noon....

We caught fish at the 1st spot we tried but they were not plentiful so to then other side of the world we went! The "other side" is the eastern shore, the Honga River area which is a place I love to fish but shut me out the last 2 times I was there this year.

Once inside the bridge, we found some birds over a grass bed in 4-5' of water and it was on! Top water action at its best!

BTW, Greg will send me the pictures later as I left my camera in the car along with my glasses etc!

Once we got our practice in we then hit the shallows and had great success. Many doubles and triples and keepers!

I think our biggest was a 23 incher but we had many fatties over 20" as well.

The rains were not heavy but they were persistent enough that we needed rain suits. But it did not deter the fishing as we kept catching as we worked the milk run.

What did affect the fishing was when the tide flatted out. We scored very little for 2+ hours as we searched for moving waters. Once we found it, it was game on again!

At one time we had a quadruple and we had many triples on.

At the rocks in the middle of no where, John caught a cool (and big) oyster toadfish.....

Then we got into some feisty blues as we worked a particular through. They were a blast...angry  fish is what they are.

Later, as we were headed home, John caught a black sea bass....a rarity in these waters.

All in all we caught @100 fish.....an excellent day indeed!

We were happy but tired. The worst part is always the long drive home but we really didn't care after such a nice day on the water.

A hundred fish day is a dream day, glad the east side finally produced. Those flies over there must be the size of an f-16 by now

I did not know we were going over there until Dennis declared it when on the boat. I was nervous about it but it worked out well.

Interestingly, the flies were few and small.....

Re: 10-13-14, out of Solomons

Thanks to Ernie for inviting me on this one.  I initially couldn't go, then I could, and got added as a 4th on the boat.  Very generous of him to make room for me.  And I am sooooo glad he did.  For a couple years I have been hearing the myth about finding flocks of birds over schools of bait with stripers all around.  But every time we go out we never see any.  Finally! I see what you all have been raving about.  When we were in the middle of all those fish and catching basically on every cast I was literally giggling like a silly schoolgirl.  So much fun!

It was a great day all around.  Even when we had the lull in fishing I had a great time with Capt Dennis and everyone on the crew.  We must have driven at least 50 miles yesterday.

Re: 10-13-14, out of Solomons

I too had a great time on this trip. Second time out with Captain Dennis and both trips were a blast. Fish, fun, and an education all on the same day. One thing my crewmates didn't mention was that at one point we all had to change lures to go to ones without treble hooks. We were catching stripers so fast that it was impossible to unhook the fish fast enough to get back in the water for more action. So we switched to lures with single hooks. Never had that happen before. At one point, I yelled out "Yahoo...I did it!" And as everyone looked my way, I added..."I managed to cast out and retrieve the lure without catching a fish." That's how good the action was. Thanks Ernie for setting up the trip...please keep me on your invite list for future trips with Captain Dennis.
