9-1-14, out of Dennis Point Marina

I cannot believe that we are in September already....

Bob, Greg and I decided to go chase some white perch in a remote creek today.

When we got to the ramp, it was raining but it let up enough to let us get underway.

We had a 1+ mile pedal/paddle to the spot.

The tide was up and everything looked good!

The fishing was slow but we steadily plucked at them.

Bob caught a speck!

Greg caught a red!

We all caught many 10+ inchers! Very few small perch in this creek.

But Greg caught the one we were after....a very nice 12 incher! I heard him holler that he had a nice one on so I went to him to get a picture. He held the fish up and......flip flop it went back in the drink!

It was getting close to noon (and hot) so we meandered out of the creek and fished in 5-10' of water. Here, many fish were caught including some stripers and this baby cobia!

I had several needle fish chase my lures and even had a toad fish trying to grab at my Woody spinner.

As we left, we trolled out and caught a bunch more including a 10.5" WP for me.

Greg drifted away from us and got into a school of small blues.

We were back at the ramp at 1:30 and called it a day. Nothing to brag about but a great day on the St. Mary's River indeed!

Still looking for some big shallow water perch!

Had a great time today, but you have to get up too early to fish those far away places. I've been retired long enough to forget that  3:30 comes twice in the same day.
That baby cobia was a neat surprise, my first ever, and the perch quest continues.

Awesome to see you guys on the kayaks!  That area is so beautiful.... I just wish it was closer... 3:30am is killer even when you're not retired! smile

Awesome report! I love catching a variety of fish like that. I would be stoked to catch a cobia, even at that size!

Re: 9-1-14, out of Dennis Point Marina

As always, had a great time fishing with Ernie and Bob (first time with Bob).  Looking forward to many more.  The spot we went is really spectacular.  We knew it held big WP, but they never really turned on the way they were last time we were there.  But, between the 3 of us I think we caught about 30 WP, 7-8 Bluefish, 8-10 Striper, a Speck, a Redfish, and a Cobia.  Nothing big except the WP, but all of them a ton of fun to catch on Ultra Lite rods.  At one point we each had fish on while trolling back to the dock.  Is that a tri-fecta or something?

A really fun day with great guys.  Ernie needs to learn to paddle faster when someone has a big fish they need a picture of!!!....OK, OK...someone also needs to learn to hold onto the fish a little better (thats me!) big_smile big_smile big_smile

Cant wait till next time.

Yes, PEDAL.  In your Rolls Royce of kayaks with the barco-lounger recliner, full bath, refridgerator, guest room, and wall to wall carpeting!  big_smile big_smile big_smile (I crack myself up)

As we drove home, Greg and I were satisfied with the day as we all had a good time in a beautiful place. But...we worried about the traffic. There was none. We flew home!

On the toll road just past Wolf Trap, we ran into a wall of rain that stopped all the traffic. It was intense. Two minutes later, it was gone.
