4-5-14, Windy Caramel on the river.

JC and I left Ashburn at 8:30 and met Mike at the ramp to see if we could get a day of fishing in.

It was windy.

Where we put in, the water was a caramel color.

But, we needed to get JC a bunch of 1sts....like a 1st fish from a boat!

That did not take long as he took the skunk off the boat!

Then Mike obliged....

....and again!

Finally, I scored....

....and again!

And then Mike!

And then me with a football!

And then JC with his 1st on a spinner bait!

I stuck mostly with a chatterbait (one of Mike's favorite lures) but he had yet to score on one....until this one!

Then me again....

....and then JC gets his 1st on a chatterbait!

We had another 1st for JC...his first eagle sighting. That was cool. What was cooler was when the eagle came towards us, made a slight turn and went to the water to pluck out a fish. All within 75 feet of us!

We felt like we cheated Mother Nature today. We were able to get out of most of the wind and enjoy a few hours of some fine catching!

Great day and a great time!

I had a great time! Mike is a great captain and Ernie is a great guy! Ha! There were several instances where Mike was like "I bet there is a fish here" and next thing we know he is hooked up haha. I learned a lot today. What a guy. Even aside from the fishing, it was a great time. Great company, great scenery, great other animal sights. There were a few moments when the wind gave us a break and you look out and it was so peaceful...love it. The eagle sighting was awesome, especially when it grabbed the fish from the water, right in front of us! Thanks again Ernie!!! big_smile

Very well done, fellas - fat and healthy fish in what looks to be a nice part of the river.

Fun day out there fellas, glad I was able to join you.

My new buddy JC is a good fisherman. When I first started learning how to fish on that river, it really took me a while to get the hang of things. Like probably a year or two. This guy, on the other hand, only took about 20 minutes. I was impressed.

I had a great teacher! You said in this situation you'll want to do this because xyz, you lead by example and caught fish, I followed and caught less fish, but fish nonetheless smile I appreciate it when the "why" is explained. I'm still going over all the things you said and learning new things! I've been trying to practice feathering the line for a soft landing....still working on it tongue

I'm thinking about going out on Saturday. What was the water temp?
