Out if Deale, 9-27-13

Today, I was in search of big perch for the SRRKC Tourney. We had a nice day foretasted. As we took the skunk off the boat....

....we ran in to Capt. Carl Brown on the Something Else. His trusty mate, Lee, was with him.

Weatherman this morning called for NNE winds of 5-8mph and seas of less that 1 foot with building seas later in the day.  That is NOT what Dan, Miguel and I were greeted with. It was blowing 12-15 with 1-2 foot seas! Made for a sloppy ride!

Since we were on the western shore, this wind kicked our butt most of the day, it was tough getting away from it but we still scored pretty well. The fishing was not hot but we did catch 18 that were 10" and above (there may have been a couple of 9.5 inchers in there).

Today we had 4 species: WP, striper, blues and a flounder! And Miguel now has an 11 incher as his personal best WP!

We had some very nice "sandwich" fish, as Dan called them.

As we made our way back, we were going to hit a familiar hole when Dan looked over to another area and you could see that he wanted to explore it. I had never been there before and then Dan noticed some rocks. A nice striper came out of there along with a few perch and the flounder. but then...Dan got slammed with the biggest WP of the day coming in just under 12"!!

Fat perch!

We ended up around 1:30 (it was now flat calm) and headed over to Big Dave's BBQ to complete the day. It was good!

All my perch are filleted and in the freezer. My mother will be happy to have some for dinner. Sorry you weren't able to get any fish to help you move up in the tournament, Ernie. At least you are sticking to your guns and fishing for them on light tackle.

Dan- regardless of the tourney results, I had a good time. I think the game is about over for this year. I would not have  been able to get out there for 2 more weeks. Come on May of '14!!!

Don't turn into a pumpkin now, the real fishing is just getting started.

Re: Out if Deale, 9-27-13

All the little fishies are starting to fatten up for winter. The big fish that have been laying low all summer will be moving in where we can find them. The bass will be leaving the dying weeds and moving to wood. The non existent pickerel of summer will readily hit a spinner or spoon and even the yellow perch will get in the act. Growing up, our striper fishing didn't get good till after a few frosts. And what about Wash. Channel? There have to be a few stripers that aren't afraid of the cats.

Got it...all makes sense. I have not tried the WC this year.

And...I won't be getting out until 14 Oct (doing a float). And I am not liking these chili mornings....
