EVENT DETAILS
New Horizon Bass Anglers Youth Foundation will sponsor two FREE youth fishing derbies at Lake Fairfax, Reston, VA. All kids ages 15 and under are invited to participate in the derbies. Families and friends are invited to share the day and encourage the participants!
These two fishing derbies provide children an introduction to sports fishing and the responsibility of caring for our natural resources. A short seminar on these subjects will be conducted prior to the award presentations. Professional guides and anglers will be available to answer fishing questions!
A fishing license is not required for kids fishing the derbies. Adults must have a valid Virginia freshwater fishing license to fish the lake at other than the June event.
Bring your own rods and reels! If you don’t have one, then we will loan you one at no charge. A drivers license will be required to borrow a rod. Bait will be provided or you can bring your own. All participants will be fishing from the shore.
Check in and registration begins at 8:00 am. Participants may practice fishing from 8:00-9:00 am. Derby fishing begins at 9:00 am Pre-registration is encouraged at http://www.nhbayouthfoundation.org/derbysignup.html.
A light lunch (hot dog, cold drink and piece of fruit) will be provided to each registered participant at 12:00 noon. Familiesare encouraged to bring water and snacks for consumption during the derby.
Derby prizes will be awarded in two age groups. Group 1 includes kids ages 6 and below, while Group 2 includes kids ages 7-15. The grand prize winner in each age group will receive a fully-equipped tackle box suitable for their age along with a free fishing trip on the Chesapeake Bay with a parent. All participants will receive prizes regardless of whether or not they catch fish.

A friend of mine has a couple of kids and I helped him out last year. The event is fun and with good weather is a real joy for the youngsters. If you have kids or just somebody who wants to throw a line in, this is a great, free opportunity for that. You even get a free hotdog out of it! haha
