8-31-13, out of Shamansky's

Weather forecasters called for a Small Craft warning for the bay and other nearby waters so when Grag and Tyler showed up, I told them there were a few places to hide and one place that may be OK. They chose the latter which required a nostalgic drive down to Cobb Island..

We put in at Shamansky's on Neal Sound.

It had been more than 5 years since I was down there. A nice young man helped me with the parking situation. It turned out to be Butch's 17 year old grandson. Last time I saw him he was 12.

Anyway, we made our way out of Neal Sound and we were greeted with 1-2 foot waves with the wind coming out of the SW (predicted). I told the guys we had a long and bouncy ride ahead of us but they said "go for it"! They got wet...and battered but we made it to Swan Point alive and took the skunk off the boat there.

We then headed over to the Power Plant and it was eerily slow. We pounded the area and only caught 1-2 stripers along with a 1/2 dz perch. No reds and no catfish. We did see a boat anchored at one of the outflows and they were fishing for and catching blue cats.

So we decided to hit the shoreline all the way to the creek. Something I have always wanted to do. We caught many a small perch and then got one that we were looking for...a red!

OK...not very big but one we were looking for.

Tyler kept saying to go hit a particular clump of grass and I told him, "later". they we say a couple of fish tarpon out of the water so we explored. We caught a few perch and then Tyler nailed this keeper fattie!

We continued to fish some very fishy places but the wind and waves were taking its toll. We were taking teh SW wind/waves to our side and made fishing tough. I had a hard time keeping the boat straight but we all played along nicely.

Next we moved to Ceder Point but only found rough water and a few willing perch so we decided to make the long run to Cobb Island Light. Here we found 1-2 stripers and a bunch of perch on the hidden rocks but it was rough so I said we should go fish the backside of St. Catherine's Island which would be in the lee. It was nice to fish in calm waters but we never caught any of the big perch I have been hearing about. Hmmmm...

Anyway, Greg and I put a down-payment on this fixer upper!

Next up was St. Margaret's Island where we have done well in the past but we only caught a few perch.

I was getting late (past 2 pm) and I said we should quit but the guys said they were hungry. Oh...we just happen to be close to Quades! So we went!

That area brings back a lot of memories especially of Carl who was the one who brought me there. I told a lot of Carl stories today.....and then we ate!

The crew all agreed that Quade's was a great place and a great place to eat!!

We didn't get home until 6 but we caught a bunch of fish (never did get a 10" perch) despite the SCA. We win!

Being at Quades and having a burger instead of a crabcake is akin to Mo bringing a banana on the boat! Glad you picked up a few fish, was a nice day even with the breeze

I smiled the whole way. Well....maybe not so much when we were running in the 1-2 footers. But the bigger smile was the 1st bite of that crab cake sammie!

That would be Tyler although Jimmy and I have split a burger to go along with the crab cake. They make a mean burger.

Spending the day with Ernie "trolling" down memory lane was so much fun.  Every nook and cranny had an old time Carl story or fish story.  Tyler's butt is a bit sore from the waves (the old men got the comfy seats), but other than that, who cares about getting a little wet on a beautiful day like that.  We caught fish pretty much everywhere we went with a few surprises along the way.  I couldn't ask for better.  Quade's is a gem I won't forget and look forward to making a "must do" any time I am in that area.  Looking forward to the next one!!
