Memorial Day perch

Took a buddy out to Beaverdam to do a little Memorial Day fishing. The targeted species this time around were Ernie's favorite fish, White Perch!! Those scrappy fish couldn’t stay off of our spinner baits when we cast into the boiling schools. We filled up our little cooler and deep friend those bad boys. I don't usually eat fish but since Odenkirk said that we should harvest them to thin out the herd and so I decided to try them for dinner. White Perch taste amazing (light and flaky) and are awesome with some tartar sauce and a cold brew. What a great way to get some fresh and natural Omega 3 vitamins. Another beautiful and blessed day!!!

Re: Memorial Day perch

They now average about 8 inches but you occassionally catch some bigger. They are getting big in there. If you are on your yak, just go into the coves and cast into the boiling surface. We must have lost at least 20 fish because they barely hang onto the treble hook and their lips rip so easily. They are really delicious!!

I hope they're getting bigger.  It's no good catching bait size perch when I'm not trying to catch bait.

Catching them on spinnerbaits, but losing them on treble hooks?  What were you using with a treble hook?

The ones I lose are when the treble hook barely catches the outside of the fish's lip. It's more of a grazing hook. Their lips rip very easily but when one does take the treble inside its mouth real good, it's a pain trying to get it out.
