4.3 LMB in skinny water

Fished from 4.30 pm til dark this afternoon and managed to get on the board in December with this 4 lb 3 oz LMB.  Right up against the bank in very skinny 2 ft deep water chasing baitfish.

I'm  surprised they are in the shallows chasing bait fish. I would have thought that the bass would all be in deep water

Re: 4.3 LMB in skinny water

Actually most of the bass I have been catching the past 2 months have been in relatively shallow water near the shore.  A lot has to do with the baitfish, water temperature, structure, etc.  However, was watching a fishing show several weeks ago and they tagged and tracked bass over a several year period, and were suprised to find out that over half of them stayed in shallow water over the entire winter at depths of 3 to 5 feet!

That's pretty interesting. I will certainly have to keep my out for bait fish. I always assumed that when the water got below 50 degrees, the bass head out to the deeper parts of the lake and relate to structure. Thanks for the great feedback and insight. You catch some pretty nice looking bass.
