5-26-08, Cedar Lake report

In the afternoon, Paul Kordon brought his 3 daughters to try to catch a few fish before going over to their Memorial Day shindig at Paul's parent’s house.

All of the girls caught blue gills on worms and they also caught a few bass. They each also caught a blue gill on a fly rod!

I will try to post pictures later after Paul sends them to me.

We saw one of the most amazing things happen right after we had thrown back an injured blue gill. One of the girls gut hooked a nice BG (maybe 5-6 inches) and it was struggling on the top of the water....didn't look like he was going to make it. Well.....a huge bass took care of that problem! He came up and inhaled the blue gill....scared the daylights out of us all. It was an amazing sight!

I am fishing with bigger lures from now own.

I tried to duplicate the deal by throwing my wacky senko that was already rigged up and I managed a 1.5 pounder but big bubba was probable sitting low digesting the big BG!

Here are a series of pictures of Paul's daughters. Teach a kid to fish and you gain a friend. They were totally absorbed with the process as you will see in the pictures!

PRICELESS!!

Re: 5-26-08, Cedar Lake report

I have seen larger bass go after sunnies as well.   What is the above lure called?

I threw my 5 wt fly rod tonight.  Most of the action was had bouncing my large black frog w yellow stripe popper on top of the algae.   Bass were under the cover, and I had some large blowups.  The problem is the success ratio is quite low because the algae definitely interferes with the hookset.

Great pictures Ernie!!

Glad to see the kids enjoyed the sport. It's definitely a lasting memory for them even when they get older.

Picture number three (the one where all three are fascinated by your BG catch) looks like it came right out of an outdoors magazine. Great shot.
