10/13 Housatonic River Connecticut

So while living in NYC a couple years ago, I discovered that Housatonic River Outfitters was offering fly-fishing trips for Northern Pike.  I finally got around to booking one this year though instead of the full-day trip I went with their seminar package: 3-4 hours of discussion with the head guide and then four hours on the water.

There were four clients and we split up into two drift boats with a guide each.  My boat did well, we both got two fish each, 4-8lb range.  The other boat apparently got skunked.  I started out with my usual 8# 9' striper rod but got tired quick throwing the big pike flies.  My guide Steve let me use his same size but much lighter Sage One rod instead.  Tremendous difference.

Here's Steve holding my 6lber while I look proud in the background:

Very worthwhile trip.  The best times are in the Spring and Fall, I may go back up in April.
