FRIDAY 9-28
Me and Joe took the jon boat out searching for spots for me to fish for the TKAA tournament on Saturday. We started a Little Creek Reservoir from 6 30 am to 11 30 am. We each caught a small bass and that was it. So we decided we needed to get moving to the next spot. We hit Ft. Eustis from 12 30 to 4 and only caught small fish again. This meant I had to make a decision on where to go. I headed to the TKAA Tournament Captains meeting. I decided to go to the Chick where I had caught a lot of fish two weeks earlier, even though nothing was big, because I had caught more than the other places and I knew most of the Bass Division was going to Harwoods and Suffolk.
SATURDAY 9-29
I got up really early to make sure I was rigged and ready to launch before the 6:25am time, which was smart because I made a wrong turn and was behind schedule, but was able to get there on time. I was ready to go!
I paddled out to the lily pads and started throwing a frog. I casted it right next to a tree and two twitches later BAM! This bass splashed out of the water and devoured my frog. It fought hard and I thought I had a monster. It turned out not to be a monster, but was 18", which could do. I was not satisfied and kept going with a mission to catch a big one.
I fished for a while with no hits. Then I started to throw a crank in some wood cover on the main lake. I got a hit from a chain pickerell at 22".
Kept fishing and started to swim a Missle Baits Tomahawk. I caught my first ever bowfin. This thing was a monster and I had no way of getting it in the boat to get a better picture. This led to my decision that I need to get a net and lip grips before my next time out.
Was only able to nail a few small bass on this nasty rainy day, so I headed back to Norfolk for the "weigh in". Turned in my picture not expecting anything, but then my name go called to inspect my photos. I ended up getting 4th place with a $50 Hook1 gift card. Lost to 3rd by .25, 2nd by 1" and 1st by 1.25". Won some other little stuff in the raffles. I had a great time and can't wait til next year.
9-30-12
We had another CNU club tournament on Lake Maury. Me and Cody found our fish on shakey heads on points here. We weighed in one of 3 five fish bags, of the 10 2 person teams. We got 3rd place and won our money back. Joe and Ryan got first with a bag much bigger than ours or 2nd as they found a offshore road bed.
