Severn River, 9-28-12

The quest for a 13 inch white perch on UL tackle continues.....  cool

Bob Morgan and I put in at Spa Creek and noticed the name of this boat on the way to the fishing spots.

Perhaps this guy should get a fishing boat....  roll

Although the weather man said there was a 60% probability of rain in the AM, he was wrong!

It was beautiful out and it stayed that way until we quit.

Today we decided to fish around Round Bay and we found fish at our 2nd stop. The perch were plenty but no gorillas. However, we did get some other nice things!

Starting with Bob catching a nice pickerel!   big_smile

And then a yellow perch!

The I caught a smaller yellow perch....

....and the a bigger on!     smile

We then explored a nice grass flat where we caught a lots of perch and stripers. Since we were in that "fish new water" mode, we went way back to another creek that I had never fished before. Nothing at 1st and then I got nailed! Bob said, "this could be the big one". My heart was racing as this was very light line and I did not want to break it off. After a few moments, we saw that it was a 15" striper. Pesty fish! I was here for perch!

We then found another area that was loaded with stripers and perch. We picked them off and then...another nice hit. this one behaved differently, must be that 14" white perch gorilla. This fish took lots of my UL line and was taking drag! Fun for sure. Once we got him boat side, we say it was not the big perch but a very nice puppy drum!     smile

It was getting late so we decided to hit the radio towers, a place that never lets us down....until today. We caught a few stripers off the wood and rock but NO WP!

Since we were basically at the mouth of the river, i told Bob that I wanted to spend a few minutes looking for birds. Fishing with Bob is easy, he is always obliging so off we went.

I went to a known bar and then Bob spotted some birds and we had our way way a couple of thousand stripers....all juvies. Then, I got nailed and the fish took off. Although it was not on UL it was on a very light rod with 12lb test mono.

Here was the result!

Maybe a  2 lb blue....    smile

We went looking for more but a knucklehead drove his boat right through the school and shut things down so we went on home.

Great day out on the water!

Blue fish?!?! I tried to filet one once and it had the consistency of mush. I do want to try smoking them sometime though. I have had smoked bluefish dip that was awesome.

That sounds like a great day fishing.  Was that 5 species.  NICE!

The name of the dingy on the stern of "Last Mistake" was "Little Mistake" or maybe "Boo Boo"
