Excellent!

Is the Captain's meeting mandatory?

Do I get a discount if I don't use the tent?  tongue

Captain's meeting is not Mandatory, you can get your measuring device in the morning. The fee is really a usage fee for the premises so unfortunately no discount. Plus, all extra funds go to Make A Wish, which is hard to argue with right?

Hope to see you out there this year Ernie!

No argument from me....

That's the plan....it's on the calendar but I need to get my boat fixed 1st. It still leaks at 2 of the scuppers. No "DIY" for me....almost messed it up last time.

I will lend my green Prowler to someone who wants to do this.....

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

Yak....2 of the scuppers leak. I tried to fix them last year but did not do a good job. I have a guy in Harper's Ferry that does great work. He fixed my Prowler 2 years ago but he's hard to get a hold of.

Do you know any kayak fixit places?

the only place I know of is Appomattox river company...

You would think that some of these outfitters on the potomac or shenandoah would have the ability.

The guy who I was refering to works at the outfitter on the Potomac near HF. His name is Dave.

There will be a raffle with donated prizes of rods, lures, kayak accessories and even a Hobie kayak provided by our sponsors to benefit our charities. We have opened launch options to include all Kent Island publicly accessible launches in addition to Camp Wright.

I am going to head there for it! Anyone else?

I'll be there just for fun and will be trying to catch a Striper as I never have tried.

This is a link on our web page from last year. Should give everyone some idea on "how to". (BKD's or other jigs, just enough weight to detect the bottom and vertical jigging) Every time I watch it, it gets the juices flowing!  :-)

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

BillyBigMouth, I'll be there on Saturday.  I'll be in a yellow OK prowler 13 with a green yak attack flag.  Would be nice to meet a fellow ashburn village resident all the way over at the bay bridge.

Cool!  I will look out for you and come say hi.  I am heading up Friday afternoon and am sleeping in a tent there.  My girlfriend has wanted to go camping so I sold her on this, haha.  Little does she know.....

Anyone see the email sent out?  Does this mean it will probably get cancelled because of high winds?  I would hate to go all that way and not be able to fish.....

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

There are a lot of sheltered places in Eastern Bay that we are hoping will still be fishable and that the weather forecast will improve. So plan on coming but if things get worse we'll keep you all posted! At the very least there will be a raffle (for all the prizes too) and lunch since all of that is already paid for and donated!

The rain date for the fishing event is on Sunday, so if the forecast improves the actual tournament part will be on that day.

We're not cancelling! At the moment the winds look tough for the main part of the bay. As Michael mentions there are lots of sheltered areas in Eastern Bay and the Chester River. Make back up plans. You can launch from any Queen Anne County public launch on Kent Island (parking/launch fees are YOUR responsibility). You might not get that 30" striper but there is a chance at lots of other species and as a result we may change things up! To quote another participant:

"...err on the side of caution and fish in sheltered coves, creeks, etc. There are good fish to be caught in these places, maybe not the larger stripers that habitually hang around the bridge, but school stripers, trout, redfish, spot, croaker and white perch- this is a catch and release charity fun event- let's have some fun- and remember weather is fickle- it changes all the time- winds are tough to accurately forecast- we may have a window of opportunity or maybe not-"

The camaraderie and raffle is worth it on its own. Plus food. We're gonna have fun no matter what! :-)

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

Sorry we missed you, BBM.  If you were going to go on the bay in your sit-in kayak, I think you probably made the right choice to stay home.  The winds and water were a bit rough for a sit-in.

Thanks John and Michael for helping to put together the tournament.  I had a great time, and am looking forward to next year's tournament already.

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

All reports I have read indicate that it was a very windy day but all tourney participants had a good time AND that most of them took home some nice loot!

Am I understanding that the top raffle prize was a 2012 Hobie Revolution 11?

When is next year's event? I need to block out the calendar now.

Correct! The boat was donated by Backyard Boats and was highly sought after!

Dates for next year will be announced soon and full report will be posted!

Re: 2012 Chesapeake Bay Kayak Anglers Tournament

Here's the summary from the 2012 CBKA event.

If it weren't for the windy conditions it would have been perfect! We had 69 registrations, more than double from a year ago!! We raised $2036 for Make-a-Wish and $1938 for CCA!! A lot of positive comments and promises to attend again next year.

Overall, it was a very successful event. The weather held off just long enough to allow for fishing. Later in the day it became very windy. During the awards dinner and raffle we were hit by a fast moving storm that included tornado warnings! But everyone was off the water, everything secured and we were inside and safe.

A lot of fish were caught but not many big ones. We held 2 raffles. The regular raffle was for accessories, fishing equipment, books, videos and more. A second raffle was for a Hobie kayak donated by Backyard Boats and we sold 75 $20 tickets! The coolest part about the donated kayak is that the winner didn't even own one. He had borrowed a friends kayak so he could fish the tournament!

Really, really appreciate everyone’s support and looking forward to next year!
