Occoquan, 11-26-11

It was in the mid 30's when Mike Luparello and I put in at 7:30 this morning but we knew the day would warm up nicely.

Our 1st target species was for convicts...

.....but no one was home!

So we worked pur way down river and Mike took the skunk off the boat with this guy....

....and I got my slunk off with a nice 12" crappie which was our 2nd target species.

Then Mike proceeded to take me to school ad he caught many a bass on a drop shot!

As well, he snagged up some sunnies!

I did a double take when I saw this beast hanging on the rack!

We worked the Rt. 1 Bridge and caught a few more.....

....but it can get noisy over there!

Mike did catch a few more sunnies the right way!

And after throwing my white grub for a couple of hours, I finally managed a LMB!

After that 1st crappie I caught, I thought we were going to have a crappie day like Khahn but it was not to be. We did manage around 24-25 fish (Mike easily caught the most) in total but only 2 or 3 of the bass were keeper sized. Still, it was a great day to be on the water.

Oh, Mike and I really weren't fishing...we were just playing around on the water. That is what we heard another fisherman tell someone at the dock. I guess he didn't have a good day so he said he really wasn't fishing.......really?

Re: Occoquan, 11-26-11

I thought I recognized that boat...I passed you today while you were just past the train bridge. My buddy and I were in his green Nitro.  We fished today only because of our stellar day yesterday, which included 40+ LMB, about 20 crappie, 2 stripers, 2 white perch, 1 yellow perch, and 1 bluegill.  Today we only had 3.5 hours sandwiched in-between family committments for me in the morning and him in the afternoon.  It was worth it though.  Another 20 or so LMB, several large crappie, and a handful each of YP, WP, and stripers.  And the one loner bluegill also.  Caught 2 large crappie (over 12") on a 5" shaky head worm intended for the bass.  Most of our white perch came on 6'-8' diving crankbaits (bass sized).  And then I ended the day with a 5-lb bass on the crank as well.  The proof is in the pics...which are currently on my buddy's camera, so I'll post whenever he emails them to me (which could be anytime between tomorrow and Independence Day based on his procrastination schedule).  Best numbers-producing baits the past 2 days (in order):  dropshot w/ 3" or smaller plastics, shaky head, mid-diver crankbaits, rattletrap, grub.

Re: Occoquan, 11-26-11

I remember seeing that boat.....

Mike caught most of the fish and most of them were on a drop shot. But he caught some on the silver buddy.

I mainly fished grubs and a silver buddy although I did throw a weighted swimming fluke for a bit. I was surprised that my Specialized Baits spoon didn't catch any....I thought today was a bit slow.
