Ocean City 10/8-10

After making a trip to Lynchburg and back at 6am to pick up a motorcycle, I headed to the eastern shore.  I got to the area around 4:30 and launched from the Ocean Pines boat ramp about 5:30.  I started trolling a couple spoons right away and before I had left the marina I got a fish on.  It got off just as I pulled it from the water.  It was small and looked to be a bluefish.  A few hundred yards out I found some 'islands' consisting of mussels with some grass.   My first cast into the gap between the islands I hooked up with this striper,  I think it was 15", well short of the 28" minimum out there.  I ended up catching another small bluefish and that was it.  Both were caught on a silver/green little cleo spoon.  I did try fishing the light lines of the Rt90 bridge but nothing was biting.  I could definintely see baitfish appear on the fish finder when I moved from dark to light.  I only stayed out until 7pm because I had a really bad headache.  I went to sleep immediately upon getting to my dad's.

Sunday I drove around some to scout out the area.  In the afternoon my dad and I went to the Isle of Wight to launch.  Before we launched I was able to net some killifish and some other small baitfish.  I also netted some tiny shrimp and what looked like a baby striper so it got tossed back.  We paddled to the Rt90 bridge on the east side of the isle.  It was a pretty slow trip because I was pulling a cooler strapped to a boogie board.  If I went too fast it would overturn.http://www.fileupyours.com/files/274681/Fishing/cooler.JPG
Once near the bridge I caught an 11" bluefish on the same spoon and decided to keep that one.  It made for a good addition to Sunday's dinner.  Just as we started back at 5:30 I was trolling the spoon and I caught a small flounder.

Those were the only fish caught though I did hook up with something that had to be at least 5lbs.  I had one rod out with some baited hooks and as I was heading under the bridge to keep up with the fish the other was going to be running up against the bridge.  Before my dad could get there to take the other rod, the fish got away with my spoon. I think it may have brushed against the bridge and cut the line. Also something, probably blues, were biting chunks out of the bait fish on a single-hook line I had out under a bobber.

Late Monday morning I went solo to a small park on the west side of the inlet just south of the Rt50 bridge.  I got the last parking spot.  A few people were fishing from the rocks there so I made a few casts before launching.  I hooked up with a small bluefish that got off.   From here I headed towards the bridge.  I passed under and made a left towards Hooper's.  Passing over a really shallow section I caught a small flounder  Eventually I went back to the south side and fished along a wall.  Caught a few small blues on a spoon and a silver buddy.  Then I hooked up with a flounder that was close to being a keeper.  Just before I could stick the net under it the silver buddy came undone and it got away.  I was able to catch two more 13-14" flounder on the little cleo spoon while drifting with the outgoing tide and casting towards the bridge.

Re: Ocean City 10/8-10

I went there this summer and fished from the bridge right by hoopers. I think I know the shallow spot you are talking about because i could see at least half a dozen flounder in there darting up at small minnows and i could not get them to bite my jig which was getting me really frustrated. I went out a little farther and every drop of my jig i would have tons of bites by small blues and shad but could not get them hooked. the ones i did hook would come out of the water about 3 foot and then flop off. I did manage to catch a small blue and a shad though. You had a far better trip than me congrats!!
