For the 2nd year, I was invited down to Duck NC to bass fish the North River. This is a beautiful body of water....there is no development on it. It is tannic and part of the Intercoastal Waterway. Roland has been coming down very October for many years with his long time buddies, Lowell and Scott.
We met up at noon on Friday and headed up river which was a first for me since high winds prevented us from doing so last year.
This is truly a scenic river, while you will see a few boats, it's totally natural.
We caught a few fish on Friday but nothing to write home about. I will post some pictures later.
We then went out Saturday morning but did not get to the fishing hole until past 9am. Soon after we started, Roland caught a nice bass.
It took me almost 2 hours to finally land a fish....a nice yellow perch.
A little later I got a huge hit and had on a monster (or so I thought) that went under the boat and came unbuttoned. At that time, I believed that I had hooked the biggest bass of my life. I was rattled.
At 12:30 I finally caught my 1st bass and then steadily caught six of them over the next couple of hours.
In between this, I again hooked into a nice fish.....a BIG fish! After a great battle, he came up and it was a sizable bowfin....my first ever!
A little later I got another monstrous hit and I was able to get the big fish to come up and on the surface but he too became unbuttoned......another bowfin. I like them.
While the fishing was not spectacular, the days were as was the company.
I will add some more color commentary when I post the pictures.

Lunch of champs!
As we headed out on Day 2, we saw this boat in the ICW....
Roland playing like he's Cuban, hand lining a fish!
My 1st catch of the day on Sunday....
What could it be?
The biggest and baddest Bowfin I have ever seen!
A couple more decent bass, one falling to the top water bait.
Roland playing a fish....
And my last one of the day...Dan will know this lbait.
We had planned on fishing this Morning but things got in the way so we bid farewell to the Outer Banks with high hopes of returning next year...I am liking this place a lot, especially after seeing some pictures of bigger bass. However, it is the Bowfin that intrigues me...strong fish!
