Beaverdam 4/30

I got there around 7am and found a full lot with kayaks all over the place.   I got in the water quickly and headed south.  Little bit of a breeze at the time.  The res was dead, seems like everything is still deep.  The wind really picked up and I had had enough.  Waves over 1ft on the way back while I trolled a spoon. It snagged a bluegill in the eye.  It became bait for a catfish jug.   Looks like the wind has subsided now and I'll be heading back to check the jug and see if anything else is hungry.

Re: Beaverdam 4/30

My son and I got there about the same time this morning.  We had the 2 Green and Blue Tarpon 100 Kayaks.  I found out that the Kayak Bass Fishing website was having a get together this morning.  That is why there were so many kayakers.  It was nice for a little while but sure did get windy.  Tyler caught a nice little 2lber (see pic) in one of the bays on a spinnerbait.  I "caught" a beautiful 4+ lber but lost it right as I reached to pick it up at the side of the boat (does that count??).  Also caught it on a spinnerbait in a bay.

So...I am new to kayaking and discovered today that fishing rods and reels don't float!  I was fiddling around trying to set my anchor and the rope got under the reel of my rod in a rod holder.  Suddenly in lifted out and fell in the water.  I watched helplessly as it sank to the bottom.  I was about 20 feet from shore in about 6 ft of water.  Since this was a new $100 reel and $60 rod, I decided it was time to take a swim.  Beached the boat, stripped down to my shorts and fished around with my feet while I bobbed in the water.  I am only 5' 9".  I found it after about 15 minutes.  Lesson learned.  I am looking on the internet for rod holders right now.  Luckily the water was actually pretty warm.

I don't know how to post images yet.  I will look for instructions and post asap.

If I see it and touch the leader....it's a catch! Nice job!

Another well done....many of us have lost some nice rids over the years, nice to see one come back.

Wind, wind go away....

The KBF group are good folks and many of them were there to try their luck. I know one one them (Hank). You can't miss him...looks like he could play for a pro football team. He's one of Herndon's finest and knows lots about poachers. I met two other guys from that group at the PRSC meeting on Wednesday. Also good guys.

That place is big enough for a flotilla.....

I didn't touch a rod today...caught a Little League game in the AM and took a 20 mile bike ride in the PM.....all is well now.

BTW- Tyler looks like a baseball/hockey player......

Time to go fishin' again!

Re: Beaverdam 4/30

My second time around wasn't any better.  Heading out to where I set my jug I noticed it wasn't there.  I was starting to get upset that someone may have messed with it.  Then I noticed it a few hundred yards to the SW.  How it ended up there with the way the wind was blowing I have no idea.  No more bluegill and no more weight (old trailer ball hitch) attached to it.  Fished around a while after that.  Did see a bald eagle though so that was cool.  Got some pictures but I really wish I had my 300mm lens with me.

I'd call a 2 and 4lber at Beaverdam a good day.

Yep.  Tyler played Little League through the majors and has played travel hockey since he was 5 yrs old.  He plays for Reston Raiders and also Inline Hockey with Mad Dogs.  I am the head coach of his 14U Mad Dogs team.  He is an outstanding athlete and student (straight "A"s).  I couldn't be prouder of him.  I know you used to coach Inline hockey.  You should start coaching again.  We need good people to coach kids.

I saw that jug.  I assume it was marking the bridge.

Beaverdam is a great place to feel like your away from the Wash DC sprawl.  Quiet, no houses, bald eagles.  Almost makes me feel like I am in Canada (almost!).  Attached is a pic from Canada fishing

Re: Beaverdam 4/30

Simon and my buddy Jeremy were out there. From what they told me, they did fairly well but the bite was mostly in the morning. I was going to go but something came up sad
